On a beautiful Thursday evening in May, 29 kids from the Stockton area converged on the fire station to learn skills they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. Stockton Fire Department, Stockton Ambulance Association, and Stockton Police Department(with a guest appearance from the Jo Daviess County Sheriffs Office) conducted a "babysitting workshop" to equip kids of child caring age with the ability to react properly in case of an emergency. Three separate stations were set up at the fire station. Deb Heidenreich and Jean Burton of Stockton Ambulance taught basic first aid and CPR at station 1. Using a power point media and CPR mannequins, the kids reviewed topics from infants choking to having a tooth knocked out. Station 2 consisted of Officer Dave Hachmeister of Stockton Police and Sgt. Mike Moser of the JDSO covering topics from properly using 911 to intruders. Station 3 was manned by several firefighters including Mark Kruse, Rich King, Chad Lloyd, Chief Dick, Asst. Chief Baysinger, and others. The station was led by Child Education Director Brian Davis. Brian did an excellent job of covering topics such as using a lid to put out a small pan fire, using fire extinguishers to put out bigger fires, closing doors on rooms with a fire in them, carbon monoxide, home excape plans, and more. Each student extinguised a fire with an extinguisher. They were all amazed how easy it was once they had completed the task. Students were warned to only use them on a small fire, and if it didn't work right away, or the fire was not very small, to get everyone out of the house instead. All that attended were also given a sheet to take with them to babysitting jobs. The sheet was for the parents to fill out with contact information, poison control numbers, childrens information, etc. This sheet will be available for download on this website soon. The evening concluded with a pizza party, question and answer session, and a photo with everyone yelling "we love Stockton Fire". Click on the photos below for pictorial review!!
On Monday night, June 2, 2008, Stockton Fire recieved a very special thank you from a very special lady. Angela Basten was on her way to college on the day fate brought her and Stockton Fire together. As Angela was beginning her approach to Lyon's Hill, just West of Stockton, she was involved in a horrific auto accident that left her car off the road and her clinging to life. Stockton Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene, extricated Angela from her demolished car, and transported her to a waiting helicopter near Stockton. Angela had a long road to travel in her recovery, but with a loving family and a lot of determination, she fought her way back. The personal thank you meant a lot to the members of this department, and if the quality of the cake is any indication, Angela is back!!!

HOG ROAST 2008--A beautiful night led to a very successful hog roast. Great music from The Legends, great roast hog from Lena Maid Meats, and a lot of catching up with the neighbors made this an event to continue in the future.
Stockton Fire goes to School!!!
In May of 2009, several Stockton firefighters, led my education coordinator Brian Davis, went to Stockton Elementary School for a full day of education and fun. The classes were taught the traditional "stop, drop, and roll" as well as other facets of fire safety such as feeling doors before opening, staying low in smoke, home escape plans, family meeting places, smoke detectors, and more. Click below for a sampling of the day!
